Black Kids - Single Tracklisting

Very sorry, very sorry indeed. Yet another "further to the previous post". Much more delving deeper and deeper into the main frame and I've a bit more info.

What I've heard is definitely a remix by The Twelves, it will feature on an iTunes exclusive bundle, along with the Sophie B. Hawkins cover, and I've found out that the "You Turn Me On" track is a Beat Happening cover as opposed to a new Black Kids track.

It seems that the B-sides have been produced by Disco's and Dragon's, so no new song there either. Hopefully that will clear this all up, sorry again!

The Twelves

Further to the previous Black Kids post, and following lots of investigation, it seems that the track I heard on Saturday morning is very likely to be a remix by The Twelves.

I'm struggling to find any other information at the minute, other than a Wikipedia entry which has been erased but still seems to be in Google's data bank.

From the furious googling that I've done, it may have been originally suggested that the B-side's to the single would be The Twelves' remix and a Black Kids track called "Disco's & Dragon's". Whether this will be for the US only, or if the tracklisting has changed, or is subject to change, or if there'll be two versions of the single released, who knows?!

Very cloak and dagger/smoke and mirrors isn't it?

Well at least I can rest easy now that it seems that what I've heard is definitely a remix. And it is shite like.

That's that for now, I'm going to try and get a Grand Theft Auto IV feature type thing done in a few days.

Not Another Black Kids Post?

Alright, I've tried to ween myself away from constantly throwing accolades at Black Kids, I've tried to stop enthusing about them, I've tried to stop myself from writing another post about them, I've tried not to become one of those annoying cunts who says "I was listening to them before they were big", I've tried not to be the stereotypical blogger.

Unfortunately, I do need to write some more about Black Kids, but this time it's a little bit of negativity, rather than the cock-sucking you may have become accustomed to.

I've just heard a new version of "I'm Not Gonna Teach.." this morning, I presume that this is the single version that I've heard this morning. I hope to God that it isn't. Although it may grow on me, and I might change my mind within a couple of months, at this moment in time I'm absolutely appalled.

I'd like to think that what I've heard is just some remix, and not the official newly recorded single version.

The first time I heard the demo I was 18 again, I was full of energy, I was smiling. The guitar intro, and the drums and synths on 6 seconds, form one of the best introductions to any song I've heard in years. However, the version of the song that I've heard today seems to have removed the guitars, and seems to have got rid of the synths that form the foundation of the chorus and make the song so huge.

It does seem that what I've heard is the single version, though. The new recording has a change to the second verse, with the "1, 2, 3, 4" being replaced with a "dance, dance, dance, dance", and Reggie's second "ever since I was a little girl" in the second verse disappearing. The whole soul of the song has been ripped apart, leaving just another random electronic song with quirky lyrics. No charm, no energy, it no longer makes me feel like I'm a teenager and I can do anything again.

As mentioned above, I really hope that what I've heard is just a remix of the single and not the official single. It'd be an absolute tragedy if they, the label, Bernard Butler, or whoever else may be responsible, has destroyed what would potentially have been the biggest single of the year.

We'll just have to wait and see I suppose, but going on what I've heard this morning, things might well be fucked up before they even get started.

Black Kids - I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How To Dance With You

I went on and on about Black Kids at the final quarter of 2007, so I might as well have a bit of an update in quarter one of 2008.

Earlier this month, the fantastic five signed to Almost Gold for their distribution outside of the USA of A. This signing has accompanied support slots for Son's and Daughter's and Kate Nash, yet again, "the man" decided to not bother scheduling any dates in the north east of England......cunts.

On April the 7th, Black Kids will release their first single, the marvellous "I'm Not Gonna Teach...". It'll be out as a compact disc, a 7 inch record, and I would imagine a download via the main frame.

I've actually been a bit of a tinker and took advantage of the generous deal over at RecordStore.co.uk, who are offering both compact disc and 7 inch formats for a total of 3 pounds sterling. A bargain at half the price, I'm sure you'd agree. So get over to pre-order.

I Love Black Kids

Further to previous correspondence, my new favourite band have been getting a favourable write up over at Pitchfork.

Their Wizard of Ahhhs EP has been getting a respectable 8.4 out of 10 from the Pitchfork journo's. You can download the full EP from their MySpace and view their Pitchfork write up here.

Hopefully it won't be too much longer before they're snapped up and I have a full album to listen to, instead of having the demo on constant repeat on my iPod. I actually woke up at 4 in the morning today with "Hit The Heartbrakes" whirring round and round my head at a million miles an hour. That type of thing hasn't happened to me for about 12 years and that is why I am so fucking excited about this band.

Please, get this band in your life.

Black Kids

Don’t be taken aback or offended with the title of this post. I’m not making some sort of racial attack, this is the name of the band who are currently red hot on the radar, apparently.

Whenever I think of black kids, I think of this little kid called Mohammed who moved back to Bangladesh when we were 8 or 9. Good little kid, but we never ever seen him again. No idea what happened. I always remember Mohammed for the snotty crust around his nostrils. He always had it. It became even more prominent when we’d get our milk at playtime, and the focus was brought up to his mouth area, so you could always see the dried snot from behind his blue straw. Shouldn’t have drank milk, Mohammed, didn’t do his look any favours. Massive head as well actually, for a kid. The only other thing I think of, when I think of black kids, is the fact they only ever ate fish fingers when we got our school dinners. Doesn’t make them bad people like, just saying.

From now on though, when I think of black kids, (I’ll just stress, not in a noncey way) I’ll think of this absolutely brilliant young band from Florida.

I’ve come to find, by the powers of the internet and actual written words in magazines, that this band may well be the “next big thing”. On listening to the stuff they have on their MySpace and from the general “buzz” from the articles I’ve been reading on blogs and the like, I can certainly understand why. Although the sound is far removed from the type of David Byrne delivery that Clap Your Hands Say Yeah! offered us, I still get the same sort of feeling about the music when I listen to it, as if they are about to “happen”. They have a similar sort of delivery and excitement about their music that makes you feel like you’ve really discovered a band that you’re going to follow for years to come.

The comparisons are there for all and sundry, with the likes of The Cure, My Bloody Valentine and The Go! Team regularly name checked in the same breath as Black Kids.

These scamps are a very good band. Bands don’t just get younger and younger as I get older, they get better and better. Somehow, in the past few years, the world has started to produce young kids who can make amazing music. Gone are the days of sitting with a Musical Youth LP on, or teenybop wank stains Hanson appearing all over the TV set. Nowadays it’s became quite cool to like kids, again, not in a noncey way, and kids have became better and better at making music which isn’t just flash in the pan commercial, novelty shite.

The rumour mill suggests that they’ll be over to the UK in November and maybe releasing something at the same time. My luck tells me that they’ll probably just play one date in London, or they’ll support someone shite and come nowhere near where I live.

The band is still unsigned, but that shouldn’t be for much longer. So eyes peeled and keep a look out for Black Kids. It’ll make a pleasant change for a lot of people to start enthusing about Black Kids, rather than being mugged off them and accusing them of being terrorists.

Seriously though, go to their MySpace, and listen to “I’m Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How To Dance With You”. What a fucking amazing tune, absolutely amazing. Actually, fuck that, every song they have up there is amazing.
